Internodes12-15 cm long, terete, light green, a white farinose band c. 1 cm wide below each node, this disappearing with age. Branchgin infravagnial; central bud circular; subsidiary branches numerous, emerging first, the central branch developing tardily; subsidiary branches short, sometimes rebranching. Culms leaves surpassing the next node, persistent, sheath abaxially scabrous toward base, blade erect, eprsistent, base narrower then sheath apex; girdle to 0.5 cm wide.
