occurrenceRemarks | Series of eight photos of Dolichoderus bidens workers collecting white wood fibers from a decomposing Floss Silk Tree (Ceiba sp., Malvaceae), moistened by rain. In some photos, circular cutouts are seen in the lighter tissue of the trunk (secondary xylem), the result of the activity of these ants, and in others it is possible to perceive the fibers just plucked between the jaws of a worker. There are also ants transporting these fibers to build the nest, made of carton material* built under several leaves of host trees. Ant species consulting and determination: Dr. Jacques Delabie / Mirmecology Laboratory- CPDC/CEPLAC and PPGZOO-UESC. Identification of plant and plant tissue: Drs Arnildo Pott, Geraldo Damasceno and Rosani Arruda, from the Graduate Program in Plant Biology / Inbio / UFMS, Brazil. Review: Dr. Arnildo Pott / Inbio / UFMS (*) https://www.antwiki.org/wiki/Dolichoderus_bidens ...............................
