occurrenceRemarks	Costus amazonicus subspecies krukovii - Plants were not in flower but tentatively identified based on somewhat plicate leaves with purplish undersides and shoots which have short, truncate ligules and a "spongy" feeling to them. The other possibility would be C. erythrophyllus, but that species has longer ligules and has only once been documented to be in Brazil. This subspecies is well documented in the region and Dr. Paul Maas indicated from photos that they are most likely this subspecies. It was found to be fairly common in the Serra do Divisor National Park on terra firma.
