identificationQualifier Scaphonyx' was considered a nomen dubium by Langer and Shultz (2000), following from Langer (1996). These former authors state that most material referred to 'S. fischeri' could instead be referred to their newly combined Hyperodapedon sanjuanensis but did not provide a list of referred material. Because several species of Hyperodapedon have been recognised from Brazil, this specimen can only be assigned to the genus Hyperodapedon until more closely examined.
