locality State of Mato Grosso. Município de Barra do Garcas: ca. 265 km along main road NNE of village of Xavantina. 5.5 km due NW of Royal Society-Royal Geographic Society Base Camp. Along BC-2 path at 1.9 km W of road & 50 m south of path. General vegetation of area is virgin upland slightly semideciduous 15-18 m tall mesophytic forest (the southeastern edge of the Amazon forest). This Habitat: at forest edge, bordering a natural open-canopy shrubby area of a few hectares in the continuous forest, the southeasternmost known area of "Amazon caatinga" (campina form). Soil light-grey, gleyed, seasonally waterlogged, with humus and a ground layer of Cladonia (sens. lat). Eriocaulon, Schizaea (sens. lat), other ferns, etc.
