| occurrenceRemarks | Ariri is the common name. Solitary palm with acaulescent trunk. 7-12 LEAVES in crow, spirally arranged and spreading. Leaf petiole 6-28 cm with smooth margins but with a stiff fibrous leaf sheath leaving small teeth-like margins on the lower part. Petiole concave-convex in transection. Leaf rachis 56-95 cm and distinctly recurved. 28-38 pairs of distributed in clusters of 2-3 along the rachis in several planes. Middle pinnae 14-27 (34) cm * 1.4-2.7 cm. Androgynous INFLORESCENCE extends far above the leaves with a 55-118 cm peduncle and 25-42cm rachis. 11(8)-18 rachillae with a length of 13-26 cm. Peduncular bract 89-146 cm including a beak of 1.5-3 cm and the expanded or inflated part of the bract measuring 30-41 cm * 3.5-4 cm. FLOWERS light yellon contrasting with the rachis and rachillae covered with a white tomentum which tends to turn rusty with age. Palm species occasional in this area and distinctly different from S. microphylla by its longer peduncle, rachis, peduncular bract, leaves, pinnae etc., more numerous rachillae and its slightly larger flowers. |
