occurrenceRemarks Palmeira is the common name. Solitary palm with 5mX 35 cm trunk. 15-20 LEAVES in crown spirallyarranged and strongly ascending. Leaf petiole 70-120 cm with smooth margins but thick strong fibers on the leaf sheat and concave-convex in transection. Leaf rachis 570-600 cm. 152-169 pairs of pinnae wich are distributed regulary along the rachis in one plane. Midle pinnae 99-136 cm X 4.5-5.7 cm. Staminate interfolia INFLORESCENCE with 18 + cm penducle and 155-157 cm rachis. Numerous rachillae with a length of 16-28 cm and onger at the apex. Peduncular bract 161-179 cm including a beak of 25-30 cm and 30 cm perimeter Lower STAMINATE FLOWERS measuring 20-22 mm and upper ones 15-17 mm. Old androgeynous inflorescence and INFRUTESCENCE with peduncle of 15 + cm , rachis 89-90 cm. Androgynous rachillae with 1-2 pistillate flowers with a distance of 3-6 to the first one and up to 9-10 cm to the second. FRUIT 1.5 - thick, a deep orange edible mesocarp 6 mmthick and an endocarp 1 cm thick. 3-5 seeds per fruit. Flowering period said to be August and September with Fruiting in October. Palm species common in this area, but many being destroyed. People actively collecting and selling oil rich seeds for Cz100/kilo (about $. 35/kilo).
